Classifieds?
Is it possible to have a "Classifieds" thread? I imagine I'm not the only one looking for kits, radio parts, etc.

I was thinking along the lines of finding a 40 meter receiver, (hopefully a direct conversion,) either in working order, needing some TLC, or complete or partially assembled kit form. In the suggested lists I found exactly what I want, but they were discontinued models. Thus: My "Classified" query.

the 4sqrp site you can get the kits and build yourself or you can choose a builder who will assemble and test your radio for you.
but i gotta tell you the kits are dead simple to build and the instruction manuals are very detailed.
qrp labs qcx radio requires some moderate skill but is not difficult. and their instruction manual is very good and you can learn a lot from it.
sad to say a lot of hams tend to hold onto their gear and parts but some do put items up for sale from time to time.

It works very well on another forum and I was surprised to not find it here also. (No names.) I've had good luck with them on it.
I have put together many kits and am only stumped when it comes to SMD's. I'm an octal socket survivor from the 60's. LOL
I've been away and just getting back after empty-nesting. Almost everything is harder. Almost! LOL

I would imagine the owners/moderators here just didn't want the hassle of running a for-sale board. It takes a lot of work.

anyhow Im like you except I have been in computer and electronics repair for a long time now.
I actually ran a tv repair service for a while( still have a few tubes left in storage)
smd devices aren't too bad unless you get into the micro-components electronics
ive found a key is to pre-tin the components and hold in place with a solder tool and use a smaller solder iron.
the hardest part to get used to is keeping pressure on the part until the solder sets.
many of todays solders are lead free and while electrically equivalent they often take a little longer to harden
