Thread: 4m band

    Default 4m band

    Hi everyone!

In Slovakia, we recently acquired 4m band (69.9-70.5 MHz) and I wish to buy an affordable radio (the likes of TS-M588).

Is it possible to do DX qsos using such an equipment with a simple dipole, possibly while operating mobile on a reasonably high hill?

Is it better to buy a 60W mobile radio?

Thanks for any and all input.

Yes, it should be, but atmospheric conditions will play an important part. Check out for like-minded people.

I have a transverter for my Yaesu FT-857D, but this only puts out around 10W.

I also have an Anytone AT-588 (FM only), which I picked up on eBay for around half price. I use this more than the 857, though longest QSO was around 10 miles, or so. That said, I haven’t had much opportunity to use it.

    Kind regards,
