Default Need a small paddle for my qrp backpack rig

    Question

I have a ten tec 4020 qrp cw transceiver. I love it because it goes anywhere. Problem is i have only a straight key thats bigger than the rig itself

I noticed elekraft has a plug in paddle for their qrp portable and it looks like it would work on my ten tec. Does anyone know if the KXD1 plug in paddle would work in a ten tec 4020?

The jack is a standard 3.5mm stereo so I assume so but would like to hear from anyone who knows for sure before I order one

If the radio has CW speed control, anything should fit it. If it is only a straight key input, you'll need some kind of keyer to (make the dots & dashes) put between the rig and paddle.

Ten-Tec shows the Vibroplex Code Warrior as a recommended accessory. Not sure why all these bugs and keys, etc. are so pricy (Code Warrior is nearly half the cost of the R4020.) http://www.tentec.com/products/Vibro...rrior-Jr..html

    VERY small keyer at http://www.mtechnologies.com/palm/

    Also small http://www.cwtouchkeyer.com/

I've seen some small DIY models also:

Also, not sure if this answers the previous poster's concern but from the manual, "Automatic key: Built in with adjustable speed." and "The R4020/R4030 has an automatic function that determines what type of key is being used and is initiated on Power up. You will hear (in CW) the sound of the letter “A” if a paddle is connected or the letter “M” if a straight key is connected."

Radio looks like a lot of fun!
