Default Can I run a handheld from a SLAB?

I have a yaesu ft-270 handheld which I use for SOTA. I would like to extend the battery capability. Could I rig up a DC lead and run it off of a 12v sealed lead acid battery, or would this damage the radio? I notice in the user manual it says not to use the radio when connected to the DC mains lead?

Is it possible do you think?

    FNB 83 - 7.2 Volts DC ( Battery )

E - DC 5B DC cable with cigarette lighter adapter.

No you could not fabricate your own cable, unless you reduced the power to 7.2 Volts.

    Buy the cable.

Page 5 of the manual says the radio will work between 6 - 16 Volts... RTFM!

It means don't use the battery charger as a power supply, it's OK to use the radio receiving only, but transmitting takes a lot more power and will burn out the charger very quickly.
