Thread: Cloning two different Yaesus

    Default Cloning two different Yaesus

Does anyone know if I can clone my FT-1900 to a FT-2900. Except for power levels and appreance, they seem to be the same. Has anyone tried this? It would save me a lot of programming! Thanks, Dan

    Hi Dan
I know that this is not the answer you are looking for but it may help.

ave you got the leads and software that you need, if so have a look at the 1900 and see if there is the .CSV option. Even if you have to type it all into a new file it would be easier that doing it on the radio.

That may be my last resort, thanks. Anyone else want to weigh in on the cloning?

Although the FT-1900 and FT-2900 are only 'slightly' different. I doubt if you can successfully plug a cloning cable between the two of them and use the clone function of the two radios. It's not so much the memories being 'cloned' over, it's the fact it 'clones' the actual radio settings that could potentially disable the other model of radio receiving the 'cloned' data.

How much would it cost to send it to Yaesu to get it fixed if the 'cloning' locks the radio up?

    £20? ... £40?

The software mentioned can be used to export and convert memories between radios. The interface cable is the same for both radios (I believe), so you only need to purchase the two pieces of software. In fact, according to the website, the two pieces of software use the same licence, so the licence would only cost you £10, plus one interface cable (about £15?).

    Why take the risk.

I see what you mean... It gets me thinking - how could improper cloning "hurt" the receiving radio. Since the owner levels are the same for all cloning cables, it would seem like they just couldn't talk to each other. And even if it did mess of the programming of the receiving radio, there's always a hard reset to restore. Maybe I'm talking myself into this...

It's your money on the line.

Go for it, let us know what happens.

If anyone is interested, this is a follow up: I DID attempt to clone one ft1900 to on ft2900. It didn't work, but no harm to either radio!
