Default yaesu ft 221r microphone type

Hi all, newby here with first post. Studying for exam and accumulating equipment. Have a Shure 450 series 11 for this radio but see now that it requires something in the 500-600 impedance range. Shure is 250 or 30K. Radio is set up as a base. Would like a desk mic but will consider a hand held. I see good ratings on the yaesu md1,100,200. All a bit out of my price range. Any recommendations on a list of decent mics that will match with this radio under 100 bucks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The Shure is a good mic.

You might have to feed it a couple of Volts (down the mic lead).

Check the mic socket wiring from the radio's manual, wire the mic lead accordingly. If you have several radios, it is worth making an adapter up (socket one end, plug the other, suitably wired).

A 500Ohm mic is usually far less sensitive than a high impedance one...

Would a yaesu yd-844a be a good match?

It would work, provided it is wired up correctly for the radio.

I have a similar mic (a Yaesu MD-1), I've had lots of reports that using compression or a mic-preamp gives much better audio.
