Thread: NMO Roof Mount Antenna Spacing

Default NMO Roof Mount Antenna Spacing

This will be my first attempt at NMO mounting of antenna's. My recently purchased 97 Ram 2500 has two NMO cell phone antenna's installed. One is about 8" from the third brake light and the other is forward of that about 18". I am installing a Diamond SG-7900A-NMO using a Larsen NMO mount. This will be for my Kenwood TM-V7 Dual band radio. The other antenna I will be installing is will a be a Predator K1-27 for my Galaxy DX95T CB+10m. My question is, mounting these two antenns 18" apart using the existing NMO holes will this be to close to one another causing any bleed over, etc? It has been awhile since either one of these radios has been in use. If I remember correctly, the ground should be terminated as close to the radio as possible using the shortest length of wire necessary to achieve this and I should not be connecting the negative directly to the battery as I would be doing with the positive.

Any other advice you may have to give to ease my first NMO installation would be greatly appreciated.

Both positive & negative leads should be fused to the radio from the battery. Use the heaviest wire you can get.

The antenna should ground itself, a second grounding of the radio is a good idea.

I think the two verticals 18" apart should be fine, the operating frequencies are sufficiently far apart enough for that...
