    Arrow Recommendations?

I'm thinking I'd like to get my girl a radio kit for Christmas, but I wanted to check on some recommendations / opinions on what a good choice would be since I honestly know nothing about it. I know that she earned her license while still in Wyoming where she's from originally, but since coming to California she's not been involved. She's been talking about it quite a bit lately though, so I think not having ready access to a radio would be the reason and I'd like to fix that for her
I've been doing a little bit of digging around online and was pondering ordering an Elecraft K1 kit. Would this be a good choice, and if not, what would be a better choice and why? Also, which bands should I consider ordering the kit with, and what are some of the other options I should consider?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Probably the best highest quality kits are from Elecraft (I have 3 of their radios). You really can't go wrong, but they are pricey (but worth it if you can afford it). I have had the K1 and the KX1. I think the KX1, especially if you get more than two bands is a more fun radio than the K1, though. You do realize, though, that these radios are CW mode only (Morse code)?

I think Hendrick's has a superb selection of radio kits that are good quality. http://www.qrpkits.com/ They have SSB (voice) and CW kits.
