Have a look at this With a mount like this you can use it anywhere. I would cut the radials a bit longer than needed and fold them back on themselves to help with tuning.
Hi All,
I recently brought a 28mhz mobile whip aerial for my car. I have now decided that at the moment I don't want to use it on the car. I was wondering could it be used as a home base aerial. If it can what would I have to do make it usable. I was thinking it would need some sort of ground plane.
All ideas would be welcome.![]()

I have been searching the web for answers to this question.
What are the radial connected to?
Are they connected to the outer braid? Or are they brought to the antenna and not connected to anything. ( I wouldn't have thought that this idea did any good).
I have read some really awful waffle on the subject and some very good information but the connection is not mentioned.![]()

They must be connected to the braid because the radials act as the other half of the antenna. Normally mobile whips use the vehicle body as the radial, provided it isn't a fibreglass body of course.
Hi Paul,
Thanks for the info. All I need now is some better weather.
