Default Freebander review in RadCom August issue

why radcom publish a review of an "illegal freeband" radio is total be joint me...

reading the august 2011 issue of radcom i found on page 14 "the crt ss6900 10m transceiver"

i cannot understand why an official amateur radio magazine publishes this kind of radios only build for one purpose; freebanders.
these radios are designed to be used from 25.615 to 30 mhz, the loophole to sell them as legal 10 meter radios is only a software setting to limit the frequency from 28 to 29.700. you will find this radio under lots of so called cb brands like; antone at-55555, maas dx-5000, k-po dx-5000 to call a few.
this radio is in the same category as; magnum 257, albrecht 485s, ranger rci-2970, Yeticom Optima all so called 10 meter radios build for the 25.615 to 30 mhz. they even ignore the channel spacing you have in the official cept 40 cb channels.

sure many amateur radios can be modified to work on cb channels but radios like yaesu, icom and kenwoods are not designed only for the purpose of working on 25.615 to 30 mhz as these radios do.

reason why i'm bringing up this point is that we see a more and more intrusion of freebanders on the 12 meter and 10 meter bands, why oh why...

intrusion reports; southgate amateur radio news

more info about freebanders; 2w0pwr about freebanding, bravo foxtrot, charlie tango with even ct call signs.

It's been going on for over thirty years, and many (not all, but many) 'younger' amateur radio operators cut their first teeth on (either illegal or legal) CB radio and the "10m (11m) SSB transceivers".

Intruding into the 10m and 12m amateur bands is just plain stupidity though. No excuse other than a lack of knowledge or just an ignorant and arrogant attitude.

As for the Radcom article, it's worth bearing in mind that most illegal operators soon move on to a foundation licence. Ignore than at your peril.

Also worth pointing out that the 10m (and 11m) bands are having some extreme propagation at the moment, so a 10m (11m) radio review is very appropriate.

Ironic... I was happily working a string of W's on 28.380 this afternoon, then some guy from Canada started messing around. I wouldn't converse with him without a callsign, and he started swearing and going on about 11m. I think I prefer the 'Olgas' from the Russian mini cab companies on 10m as intruders.
I may start calling further up on 10m (hopefully beyond many cb radios), bit of a shame as I like working the U.S. techs, they can be quite colourful at times with the occasional 10-4 thrown in, but all decent types as far as I can tell, although some sound very nervous.

(all most?) every hf radio made for amateur radio includes the 10 meters band...

Some amateurs actually use them as mobile HF (10m) radios.

Cheaper and less risky than putting an expensive HF radio in your vehicle.
