Default Radio External Remote Power Switch/Button

    Hi,

I want to ask whether it is possible to install a an external power switch / button to a radio transceiver. For eg. I have a Yaesu VX-8R hand-held transceiver.

Is it possible to just extend some wires from the button inside the board of the transceiver itself?

    Thank you !

Yes, if you can get to it. A handheld might be a bit fiddly but provided you use the same value (resistance) for the volume control, there's no reason why you can't.

If you just want an on/off switch, take the battery out and switch the D.C. in lead.

Scratching a break in the P.C.B. track and soldering wires on is another bodge I've used in the past. Make sure your wires cannot pull out and put a drop of nail varnish over the bare copper for insulation.

    Hi Demetrius,

Thank you for your reply. Actually I had experience doing this on normal laptop - soldering wires to have external remote switch, but I was not sure whether the same technique works on transceivers. Therefore, I asked this question here, if the same situation applies to the transceiver as in the laptop?
