Look thru the manual for the "WIRES" setting. It is sending a tone to access an internet linked sytem
Hi, everyone.
I have a new 8900r mobile radio in my car. When I transmit, it seems to have a delay and I can't figure out what's up. When I push the PTT button, about 1 second later I hear a short tone. If I start counting from there ("1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7"), folks listening only hear "5 - 6 - 7". I've looked through the manual and don't see anything that stands out. I'm not sure what the purpose of the tone is, and I'm not sure what's causing the delay in transmission.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Awesome! I just found this forum, and the first thread I read sovled an issue I just noticed.
The other morning I tried to checkin our morning net in this area, and the NCO thought they heard some one, but made reference to some tones being sent. Then that night on my way home, I tired checking into a net, and finally the NCO had to get me key my mike and wait 2 before speaking.
I also noticed the initials (int) displayed on my radio. I tried to find what int meant but could not find it in my manual search. Your post refered me to lookup WIRES in my manual, and sure enough "int" indicates the wires is enabled. Problem solved.
RTFM !!
Thanks !!!
