    Default Mag mount

I picked up a Watson WM14B mag mount to replace an older Moonraker 18cm mag mount. The Moonraker got knocked off one too many times (due to low hanging branches mostly) and is a bit worse for wear.

It's only holding a Watson W-770HB (2m/70cm), but it's very confidence inspiring. It's a 'clippy' little bugger. It really clamps to the vehicle, nearly took a finger off!

Hopefully, next time It'll just uproot the tree.

my personal preference is to use suction cup like this one with antenna base connector attached.
it is easy to take off and no scratch. and it hold better than magnetic mount, just need to put some Vaseline to make suction air tight.
those suction cup sell for around US $10

Interesting solution, but I'm guessing it requires a No Ground Plane antenna?

It's easier just to plonk the mag mount with standard 2m/70cm whip on. This new one is proving quite capable upto (and beyond .... allegedly officer) the speed limit.

yes, it require half wave , non ground plane type antenna. not good for 1/4 wave , or 5/8 wave , etc.
