Post Kenwood RZ-1 Wide Band Receiver problem

    Hi all

I have a Kenwood RZ-1 moblie receiver which was working just fine until very recently.

Switching it on one day, the backlit LCD was full of random segments, with no audio or functions available. Pressing some buttons changes the segments, with the occasional speaker 'bleep', but thats about it.

The lithium backup battery has been changed, even though it tested Ok at 3.3V.
The reset procedures (press enter key while switching on) as well as the, 'M' & channel-up arrow together with other combinations, do not work or clear the fault.

I really don't want to bin it, considering it 'failed without any warning' and wondered if anyone had any experience of these little mobile wideband receivers.

The only schematic diagram I seem to be able to find on the planet, is an extremley bad photocopied 'Marition' service manual as a PDF - the text is OK, but it's impossible to read any component values or test point voltages.

    Very many thanks, Richard
