Hell I had better post more! Heres a snippet - this ham is enjoying his radio and just worked TK4DS in Corsica with 10w! Next week...Intermeadiate here I come...if OFCOM computer decides to work.
Most forums will show if a search bot is trawling the forum, shame this one doesn't, again there are 21 unregistered users at the moment

Yeah, some do. The admin can decide what the members and guests can see though.
One possible explanation maybe - I've noticed that when I post, my post isn't instantly shown on the 'new forum posts' box on the front page. It shows the previous post for quite a few page refreshes. Maybe the number of people it shows viewing the forum is incorrect?
Lets put some facts down.. the whos online isn't "right now!" its based over a time period and not only that we heavily cache the forum to keep page loading fast.. so you're seeing an Average over about 5-10mins.. I'd rather this pay off for speed and reduced server load then having database pounded for each page load, I've decided to hide from users whether its a search engine or not its pretty useless data to anyone who isn't an admin.
After the last batch of emails the forum seems to be picking up and hopefully it will continue its not easy running an active website! but if people have any "ideas" on how we can improve things feel free to open up a thread with the idea.

That would explain it!![]()
What I notice about this forum compared to most others is a post can go weeks without being answered. With as many members as there are on this forum, any give post should be answered within a couple minutes at most. I for example had asked about what happened to the IC-R3 portable TV receiver in one thread, but after about 3 weeks it finally was replied to. That's proof that a forum member count (like 2000 members for this one) does NOT equate to being an active forum. If 99.9 percent of members just join and post once, it's NOT active.
You're assuming that EVERYONE who reads your post will be familiar with the "IC-R3 portable TV receiver" post and will jump right on with all the pertinent data exactly as you imagined they would. Not everyone is familiar with every piece of equipment ever made or sold. Someone who MIGHT know about it might be away for a while and not log on. I go for days at a time without checking in here or in other forums, and I do not have any knowlege of the TV in question.
If forum members were paid to jump right away as soon as a question is posted, that'd be one thing. I think you expect too much.
I just know the fact that most forums I'm at with less members than this one, actually are more active.
There is a truth to this. However, I think it may have more to do with the amateur radio community being pretty inactive, rather than this forum being any less active than any other (ham only) forum.
Maybe it's to do with age?
The majority of amateurs are, how should I put this... long in the tooth?
Maybe they just don't remember how to turn on their PC's (or radios for that matter)?![]()
