    Default TS430 Power Output

    Hi Guys,

In an earlier post I mentioned the power output of my TS430 being very low. I have just conducted some tests into a dummy load and have the following figures, can anyone suggest what is going wrong here and whether it is fixable, or worth fixing?

    Band...........Max Power

    160.............Nil
    80...............Nil
    40...............1 Watt
    30...............2 Watts
    20...............9 Watts
    17...............70 Watts
    15...............15 Watts
    12...............4 Watts
    10...............2 Watts

The specs for the tranceiver suggest 200w on CW / 250w PEP

After a few minutes conducting the tests the heat sink fan came on so something is getting warm! The max power drawn by the rig was about 18A, but it was fluctuating quite a bit.

    Any suggestions gratefully received!

Pretty hard to tell just what is wrong over the internet but from your info, 18 amps at 13.6 volts is 244 watts input.
The radio is not 250 output. This is input power at 20 amps.
The efficiency should be about 50% minus the power control circuit design that may make the output a little over 100 watts +/- assuming no faults.
My guess is either circuit board solder/trace problems from age or an output device has faulted.
The input current you see suggests the board has an issue or a device is shorted to cause a heat indication.
You would see some heat even under normal operation.
Go on internet and key in Kenwood TS 430 and the user manuel/ circuit drawings will come up for you to use.
I just used this to check on power input etc.
    Good luck.
