It should do, I use a common ground for my TS-440S, try it, the worst it can do is transmit a permanent carrier![]()
Hi Guys,
I have a Kenwood (Trio) TS430S and have lost the microphone!!
I have managed to obtain, off E-Bay, a mic from a Kenwood TR9000. The TS430 mic plug has 8 pins and the TR9000 6. From checking the wiring diagrams I have been able to obtain, the TS430 plug has seperate mic and chasis ground whilst the TR9000 plug has a single common ground.
I understand that the reason for the seperate ground for the TS430 is to allow VOX operation. Unfortunately I have been unable to obtain any circuit diagrams or schematics for the TS430 to see exactly how they are configured inside the rig.
Can anyone advise as to whether, if I switch off the VOX function on the TS430 and connect the common ground in on the TR9000 mic to the mic and chassis ground in the TS430 mic plug this would work?
Thanks
Chris

Hi Dem,
Yes it works, but now trying to figure out why I'm only getting about 30W output in the higher bands an almost nothing lower down! (It's supposed to be a 250W PEP Transceiver!)
Chris
This may be irrelevant:
In the manual it talks about taking the ACC connector TPD and grounding it to reduce output power to 50W. Now don't listen to me - I just got my license hi hi - but see for yourself: Page 6, Fig 6-6
