Default Controlling an ic-706mkiig from software

Hopefully, my cat cable (USB CI-V CAT INTERFACE CABLE for ICOM CT-17 IC-706 CT17) comes soon and I wanted to know what the best (free) software is for at least reading and writing frequency, repeater, band, memory and tone data back to/from the rig?

If not outright control of the rig itself.

Am hoping to find a DLL whose functions I can write to myself at some stage as well, but that's for later.

    regards.

Have you tried Ham Radio Deluxe? - not sure about "best", there's so much to choose from.
