Thread: portable generator

    Default portable generator

Does anyone have experience of a good, reliable portable generator for special events (such as Windmills on the Air... no mains!). I have used a Honda Eu10i at a mill but rf was generated and it wasn't much use. I did have a Honda EX 650 which worked well for charging battreries (seemed to struggle providing mains for my power supply for my Alinco on 100W though ) but was recently stolen.

Any experience, advice appreciated. Someone suggested using an MFJ battery booster in the set up. All getting horribly expensive.. so I want to make the correct purchases!

    Thanks, Neil (U.K.)

Ooh - Windmills on the air, what a great excuse for BUILDING a generator - free power, what could be better than that?
There are lots of plans for using Neodymium Iron Boron magnet type gennies on the web, such three-phase efficiency!

Lots of diesel/petrol powered generators cause RF noise due to the switch-mode inverters, better to go for a low voltage (12V) output if at all possible and do away with the stepping up, then down again...

Good idea a wind generator, one problem... scallies.. needs to be away from vandals who think nothing of nicking antenna poles, or even trying to barricade you inside the mill!
