mounting antennas to safari rack
Hey guys, first post here. I am looking to get back into HAM after about an 8 year absence. I have a Ford F-250 crew cab and I want to mount a 2 meter antenna as well as a CB antenna. I am planning to add a safari rack to the roof of the truck with some off road lights facing forward and flood lights in the rear. I am thinking about mounting an antenna on each side of the rack to get the most height possible. Am I going to have any issues mounting antennas to a safari rack? I plan to ground the rack to the roof at all four corners but the lights will also use those grounds. Also, what antennas would you recommend? They need to be able to take an occasional tree limb as we take the truck camping and through the woods to my favorite hunting and fishing spots. Thanks in advance for the advice.

A solid whip with a spring mount should survive longest, it might not give the most gain, but will probably be most reliable.
The coaxial cable should "flow" from the antenna towards the rear of the vehicle, this will avoid snags on branches.
Try to keep the coax on the inside of the rack to minimise snagging and tie-wrap or duct-tape it well.
Grounding shouldn't be a problem, but it might be an idea to centre-drill the rack for the securing grub screws so the mount cannot move.
