Kenpro 800 sdx manual
Hello Forum, I was jucky enough to be given a Kenpro KR800SDX rotator. IT's the Medium duty one and in very good condition after I have spent a couple days giving it a complete overhaul and new paintjob.
My request is ,, could someone out there help with the "alignment" instructions, please. I have no manual and just don't seem to be able to download a manual (can buy one from USA ,but that takes 3 weeks to get here..
I really only need the 1 or 2 pages that are pertinent to the actual alignment, so either a short written explanation or a e-mailed copy of the couple of pages would be great.
I,ve sat for and passed my exam and go under the call sign of VK4FBDU.
I've spent the last 6 weeks building my radio tower ,it's a 35 foot winch up type that I can easily handle myself with a 4 element beam that is going up..
Thank You , my first time post

Hi Bruce
congratulations on the callsign!
The rotator in question looks very much like my Yaesu G800SDX.
I'll try to find the manual at home and see if there's any info on it there.
Did you mean calibrating the rotator itself or aligning the rotator with North?
If you just want to set the beam to North, connect everything and tell the rotator to point North, line up the beam with a compass and it should be OK.
These machines give 420° rotation I think, so make sure you have enough slack coax to make the turn...

Hi Dem , and thank You for being my first reply to my brand new Hobby, and this Forum..
It would be great to get the alignment section of your manual , You could e-mail it to brucedownunder@virginbroadband.com.au
My venture into radio is exciting ,allready speaking via 27Mhz cb to Scotland, Texas, the Pacific Islands and ,of course, across Australia. Going back to school for the licence was a step forward ,I recommend it .
The Rotator is ok, I'm sure. It's just me trying to line it up..
I thought about lining it up with a compass ,Nth,Sth. after first rotating it to an end stop, then adjusting the compass indicator needle to ,say, half way .
But , I'll wait for your "finding the manual" and maybe we could speak on Skype ,even.?
Thanks again,,my friends are desendents from Cryprus-I'll get the location.

Kenpro 800 sdx
Hello Michael and other members,,,
Michael has kindly sent me the instruction manual .... I have read it many times , but doing all that it says , I still don't get a good result.
Somewhere while rotating the indoor unit ,, it goes 2X 360 degrees by itself, surely this is something wrong??.
The overlap light comes on , but ,180 degrees opposite to what it should be ..
any helpers , please ..

More Info
Thanks so far ,,, forum members. I'm wondering if ,maybe, there is a switch inside to to be activated to re- calibrate the compass readout .. Remember the rubber drive belt broke and I had to dismantle a lot of gears to get a new belt installed. So maybe the positioning of the gears is "out of whack" and there is a proceedure to follow as if It's in the factory for a re-alignment
All the instructed proceedures I've followed in the manual don't correct the alignment -I'
ve tried maybe 30-40 times.. but I'm not to sure of going further at this stage ..
Thanks
Bruce

Oh, I see, the unit needs aligning, I think it works by means of a variable resistor coupled with the main spindle.
I'd think setting the machine to North, dismantling and setting the VR halfway, then setting the teeth in the middle would be enough - might be worth having the finger on the power switch in case it hits the end stops...
I can't remember if it has limit switches inside or not.
Just found a link for the manual here:- ftp://guest:guest@manualserver.dyndns.org/g800sdx.zip
Well, looks like it does have limit switches, the exploded view isn't that clear, but should help...
