    Default Ham radio delux cables

    Ok I have hamradio delux and i would like to connect my laptop to my radio I know I can use a usb to serial cable and then a gender changer but i found this cable that is a female serial to ethernet cable and was wondering would it work.

    My experience with USB-serial converters is not a good one, some work with some programs and not with others, other ones work with some programs, but not the first, etc... It's a bit hit & miss with these things, some hardware works perfectly, some doesn't even know it's connected.

    Going from a network connection to a serial connection may prove just as quirky - if you're on a laptop/netbook you may not have a choice but to try one, but on a desktop P.C. it's well worth investing in a PCI/serial card to do the job properly...

    I would avoid the cable you've linked to. It appears to be a cable made for a specific purpose, accessing the configuration of a range of Cisco routers. Although one end uses a db9 connector, it is not described as an ethernet to serial converter. It's normal to use a USB to serial converter on modern laptops as a substitute for the missing serial port.
