Unhappy Please help new Ham (alinco DX-801)

Hi i am having mega problems with my setup that i hope (pray) that some kind fellow ham cam assist with and put me on the right tracks..

I have an Alinco DX-801 HF set and a M0CVO Antennas end fed Longwire(with 9:1unun) going through a MFJ Versa Tuner.
If i screw pll plug firmly into socket i do not recieve anything, only very faint signals and signal meter does not operate, if i unscrew plug and just gently insert into socket i can recieve everything and signal meter works 100%, I have removed tuner and plugged dierctly into rig with same results, this is tearing my hair out please help, before gear goes out of window and i pack in all together..
    Cheers in advance.

Sounds like the antenna is not tuned, is it the same on all bands?

Are you using a good earth to the radio?

    Cheers for replying Dem,
1, Yes it does happen on all bands and ATU brings the SWR down to 1:1 - 1:7 max throughout

2,Yes there is a good RF earth to the radio and ATU coming from a 2 mtre earth rod purposely for this.

i do not have an earth running down from unun but i was assured by the antenna manufacturer that it was not required..

9:1 balun to longwire should work ok

the balun should be handling the impedence mismatch from the extremely high impedence end fed ok

you have tried via the tuner and directly into the rig and the same symptoms appear?

the inside of the balun is just a ferrite ring wrapped with two coils of insulated wire to act as an impedence matching transformer.........your rig likes 50 ohms.............the longwire will be 600+ ohms

    you earth your rig?

do you use a 240volt transformer?

Sounds like a short somewhere, have you checked the cable and plugs with a meter? Have you tried a dummy load on the end of the feeder?
