    Default FT-897D & digital repeaters

The manual is doing my head in, How do I set it up to access digital 2m repeaters? such as GB7OK

Actually it's not the Yaesu manual doing my head, it's me doing my own head in, I have just recently got rid of all my 20yr old equipment and purchased up to date gear.

2 handies, and 2 mobiles, that's 4 different manuals from 4 different manufacturers, 2 of them written in chinglish and I am suffering from manualitis (information overload)

    You can't.

You need to purchase an Icom D-Star enabled transceiver. Only they make D-Star kit. Even the Kenwood D-Star radio (used to be available in Japan I believe) was just a rebadged Icom.

Yaesu don't make any radio equipment that has D-Star capability.

I have seen a kit you can build which can give this capability, but my Googling skillz have failed me today.

http://d-star.dyndns.org & http://www.dutch-star.eu offer D-Star Kits & devices, but I don't think they have the one for adding D-Star capability.

Hopefully, this kind of homebrew D-Star kit will take off, because the Icom gear is seriously expensive.

An interface that any analogue radio can be connected up to would definitely help.

Sounds pretty specifically D-Star to me.
