FT767DX problem

I have recently aquired a secondhand Sommerkamp FT767DX ( a FT707 rebadged).

Rig works fine except for one thing.
The CLARifier is "lazy",,..... when you turn the CLAR knob the displayed and heard frequency may take several seconds to catch up with the knob....and when going to transmit I suspect that the transmitted freq takes just as long to revert to the base frequency .

Any ideas on what may be causing this and any (hopefully easy) fix for it.

As a follow on to this - if it is not easily fixed - I have a Yaesu FRG100 receiver that I for split frequency working if I can work out a way of muting it when the 767 goes to transmit.FRG100 has a mute socket - but from where on the 767 can I take a feed to mute the FRG100?

Straight off the Mic/PTT?

Sorry I can't be much help with the tuning problem, look at the circuit diagram around the VFO/RIT damping and change out some capacitors???
