Thread: VHF NFD this weekend

    Default VHF NFD this weekend

It's VHF NFD this weekend, I wonder if anyone here is involved with any group and going to be heading out to a field in the middle of nowhere, or perhaps operating from home and putting an entry into the 'Fixed Sweeper' section.

I'm planning on the latter and will be trying to work as many of the registered stations as possible over the course of the weekend. It's quite a challenge, especially as you're not allowed to call CQ for the FS sections, only search and pounce is valid.

    Just me then?

    Here's my QSO map:

Overall I'm happy with that although I missed out on a century as I had just 99 QSOs. It's a little frustrating that I heard one of the registered stations working someone else but due to the nature of the section I'm going to enter, because I didn't hear him calling CQ, I never got to work him. Registered stations are multipliers so I missed out on one there.

It was slow and hard work but enjoyable. It's also shown me that the changes I made to my station earlier this year have been effective.

Aye, I have worked GM from here before, I was just a little disheartened during the recent Backpackers contest that I didn't hear any of them but that's because they're all running QRP and little aerials during Backpackers. In NFD that's not the case, big aerials and lots of power are the order of the day.

    Life's too short for QRP

There was no Es this year but the tropo was kind. Northern Spain on tropo is a nice achievement.

Excellent news, well done that man... and by a good margin as well. I somehow doubt I will be emulating your success with my participation in the cdxc/clublog HF challenge that runs through september on 15-6m

Is anybody doing it again this year? Myself and M1EAC should be active as G7HAH/P from an as-yet-undecided location...

You're a bit early for VHF NFD, it's the first weekend in July. Last weekend there were a couple of low power contests on but conditions were poor.
