Tone Encoder
I just recently got my Tech. License and my dad gave me his ham radio. It's a Lafayette HA-146. (mid 1970's) He can't find the instruction manual and it appears, that if I want to access repeaters, I need an external tone encoder (it has an input on the back for it) I'm assuming I can still operate using simplex transmissions. My question is, where on earth can I find a tone encoder for this? I've looked on ebay, and I've googled it, but can't find much info on this radio. Thanks for any help you guys can give. Feel free to write a reply back or email ilikedrums02@aol.com
-Thank you

I've had a look around the 'Net and not found much about that rig apart from it being soldi state and having 12 Xtal sockets for fixed frequency working. Regrettably it also has some pretty poor reviews. Does it have repeater facilities like repeater input and output? If not then you cannot access repeaters.

You might be able to find a microphone with a CTCSS injector on it, though what John_D said about repeater shift might prevent you using it on repeaters, unless you change the crystals to suit...
