Default HAM radio in an airplane

I'm wondering if it's legal to use a HAM radio in an airplane. I'm a pilot, mechanic and soon to be builder of an airplane. Is it legal? What are the laws and rules regarding this? Anyone know? Thanks for the help!

I think, from your other posts, that you're located in the U.S. ...In which case you are able to operate /AM, but you'll need to dig deeper for official conditions of use, rather than just go ahead after some guy the other side of the atlantic says it's ok
There is a fair bit of info on the web about /AM operation, but I can't remember where... maybe eham

As James says, /AM is prohibited for UK licence holders now.

edit: here's one item i found

I think it's prohibited across Europe, at least in CEPT countries - BAH!

not as far as large commercial aircraft, there's a very active PA flying freight around EU, and SAS have their own amateur radio club who operate /AM on passenger flights.... but only in straight level flight However, I can't say I've heard a light aircraft over EU on the bands for a long time.
