I have the ICOM 718 and find it to be a very good uncomplicated rig indeed, even though I have been licenced since 1974 and had many different rig, I find this one very pleasant to use. The rx selectivity and sensitivity is good and even better if you get one with the DSP module. Second hands ones are very reasonable now and a bonus is that it is still in production. Make sure that the mike comes with it. The menu is easy to understand and to set up.
All in all I would certainly recommend it and enjoy using mine. Especially as it is rock solid for digital operation.
