    Default Antenna plugs

    Forgive my ignorance only taking much interest in Tx problems after tinkering around with all manner of other gear for many years. Is there such a thing as a 50 ohm aerial splitter similar to ones I use to make using 3 @ 75 ohm resistors fro 75 ohm TV cables. If so is there much loss signal.

    Also what is the name of the big Aerial plug you need to screw in for most TX and the smaller screw in one you find on handhelds, and the small one you push and twist one on other gear.

    The socket on the back of the TX is the SO239 and the plug which screws into it is the PL259.
    The handhelds usually have a BNC connector. You can get BNC to PL259 adapters.
    If you might want to connect more than one antenna to a rig. you can get a coax switch, which will allow you to switch to two or more antennas BUT NOT AT THE SAME TIME

    Thanks I will make a note of the plugs.

    I should have explained just as with wanting to use the same aerial for two TVs, I want to use the same Antenna for both a TX and a handheld, not of couse at the same time on Transmit.

    Presumably it could be used for both just for receiving.

    You can do this with the coax switch. The handheld will need the BNC to PL259 adaptor as the coax will have the SO239 sockets. The wiring will look like an upside down "Y", if you see what I mean GRIN
    Here you can see that the antenna will be coinnected to the single SO239 and the rigs to the other 2 SO239s at the other end.

    If you have a dual band antenna (I'm talking about a 2m & 70cm one here), you could always build (or buy - arggh!) a diplexer and use both at the same time.

    The circuitry is very easy to make, the only thing you have to watch out for is if your capacitors can take the Voltage!

    This one has been used for years with 25W on 2m (data, voice) and 5W on 70cm (packet).
