Thread: 10 meter whip.

    Default 10 meter whip.

Anyone know of a reasonable 10 meter mobile antenna? I have just acquired a Belcom & a converted Ham Int as I prefer single band radios & antennas, so now I'm looking for a semi decent whip for the car. I have looked at the Am Pro's but my 20 meter Am Pro is not really one I can use when mobile & the 10 meter looks to be of a similar size, I have also looked at a couple of CB antennas, thinking that a junior hacksaw should bring one of these down to size & thus resonance.

Best mobile C.B. antenna's are probably (the big) firesticks, I would prefer a K-40 (bit lower profile), they should work OK on 28MHz, maybe you'll need a bit of hacksawing, try them first...

Most CB antennas are designed to operate UPTO 28 MHz & I want to operate on 29MHz, I am also not sure about the build quality of CB antennas, look at that antron 99, it's rubbish, but CB'ers think it's great.
It's build quality & the fact that I want more than resonance, I want effectiveness on 29MHz, that has put me off CB antennas.

Both Demetrius & myself spoke of using a hacksaw to bring a CB antenna to resonance so I can see why you would think we intended lengthening not shortening the CB antennas LOL
I solved the problem by buying a Watson multi band antenna & it seems to be working brilliantly for me. I leave the whip at the same length & can operate 80 meters with no jump lead & 10 with the jump lead & seem to be getting reasonable performance operating it whilst mobile on 5 watts SSB using the 817.
