    Default Wouxun KG-UVDIP

    Hi All

Has anybody owned, used or seen a Wouxun KG-UVDIP handheld in the flesh?

At around £60 they seem like extremely good value for money, I wondered if there was a catch.

I have not owned a Wouxan myself, but I do have several Puxings & they are great little radios. In fact these cheap Chinese radios are now getting expensive due to reputation as excellent little radios.
I know several people who have Wouxans & have never heard a bad word about them.
I paid around £30 - £40 for all of my radios including postage, the last one being brought just over a year ago. So shop around on ebay as I'm sure you can find them for less tham £60.

One tip is that you maybe able to get with UK Plug.

When I ordered the FT-60 from a Hong Kong vendor (on the big Auction site), it was sent a charger with the UK style mains plug without asking.

OK, you might only be paying £30-60, but could still be worth asking.

I have one, purchased as a take anywhere radio almost on a whim. I didn't fancy risking my IC-92 dstar handheld with airport security and their almost daily changing rules.

When I travelled to Finland in Dec no one at Gatwick even gave it a second glance !

I can confirm that the FM Broadcast receiver works at -26C but didn't manage to make any contacts - but it was very isolated where I was and well out of range of any repeaters.

I shall be reviewing it soon on ICQ Podcast but since you asked ..........

In the box was HT, antenna, battery, belt clip, wrist strap, drop in charger, programming lead, software, manual. It is open to TX 137-174 and 400-480 but there are various versions so make sure you know which one you get - I didn't know this until mine arrived. The charger has a UK plug fitted, good old DIY style - looks like the moulded one was cut off and an off the shelf one fitted.

Audio reports have been OK, audio a little low and it sounds best set to narrow mode seems to be the consensus so far when compared to my !C-92. The ext mic/speaker socket is the Kenwood layout, so I might try a cheap speaker/mic as well.

Gripes: only two so far, there is no dedicated VFO/Memory button and switching between these modes means going into the menu. I suspect it was originally designed to work in memory mode virtually all the time, so I have just programmed a few channels with S20, S21 etc.

Secondly, it's sold as dual band and therefore I expected dual receive. In reality it's more of dual standby - it switches between the two frequencies if a signal is received muting the other.

Finally, programming is quite convoluted, make sure you get the programming cable. Programming software is downloadable from Wouxun but is very basic.

But, for £57 inc P&P from HK I'm not complaining.

Paul TZO, I'll bring it to club night on Thursday be interested in what you think of it.
