Thread: POOR PROPAGATION

    Default POOR PROPAGATION

Well; since no one has posted here I thought I would. Hearing that the latest space probe which passed behind the Sun gave some great images of Sunspots, one would expect that Solar Radiation would affect the Ionosphere resulting in some DX opportunities on the LF Bands, "Nice Try" but better luck next time. Reports were that these Sunspots would be visible from Earth as the Sun rotates around it's axis. Well, I'm still waiting for the big word of a massive Solar Flare. The Solar Index is not good and we will have to wait to see if any larger Sunspots occur over then next few weeks. Be patient, it's an ingredient in the DX Formula. 8)

SFI is mid 70's at the moment, which is as high as it's been for 18 months, and it may touch 80 over the next few days.... whether it will have an impact on the bands, I don't know, but we can hope it's enough to be noticed. If it stays in the 80's for a few days, there could be a cumulative factor on the ionosphere.

17m has been lively over the last few days... the FT5G dxped was very strong today on 17m, quite strong on 15m and many have been having joy with them on 12m. I got close to FT5G today, working 5R, but that could well be as close as I get ;-)

Well, it seems we are finally on our way with cycle 24 ... some meaty flares popping off last week, almost into x class, SFI touches 100. F2 prop up to 10m, albeit still tough for northern latitudes. 15 & 12m alive with action. From 12m in my logbook over last 3 days, VP8, ZS, Z2, 5H, W, TL, PY and more.
There may be many barren patches ahead, but we're moving into the good times
