    Default ICOM IC-H16 Programming Problem

    Hello Everyone,

I've some ICOM IC-H16 radios, but some of them were missing CH 1 & CH 7.
I tried to restore the channels but failed. After that I removed the
"Internal Battery" of radio to make the missing channels visible. Now
all 16 channels are visible, but I can't program the frequencies. e.g.
    When I press FUNC + 1 it appears : 90 similarly when I press FUNC + 5
    it appears 508.73.

When I enter the frequency it returns to 508.73. can anyone give me the
solution of this problem. Why it is displaying 508.73? I removed the
Lithium Battery can any one comment???

    Waiting for anyone best reply..

Have you tried holding the button down (2s) for programming?

My IC-P2E needs you to hold the buttons in for a short time before it changes mode etc...

On the other hand you may need a programming interface, which is quite easy to build as far as I know.

Yes I tried holding the ENT button down 2s but nothing happened.. it returns on single press

e.g. FUNC + 159357 (Radio in Programming Mode)

    Now: FUNC + 5 : 508.73 (Entered 165.000) Pressed ENT it returns to 508.73

If I press FUNC + 5 then CLR it will clear the 508.73 and 00.00 appears on screen. now when I enter the frequency it returns to 00.00..

Someone told me that due to removing internal lithium battery codeplug was lost and now radio don't know that it is...

This radio don't have any programming software,

    interesting problem.....

I can only think there may be a prob with the processor, although why it should just affect those 2 channels i'm not sure, although i'm pretty sure that you don't need to hold buttons down for 2 seconds, only time you need you need to hold em down is the function button while you are entering the programming mode and radio data.
sorry cant be of more help but i'll have a play with my H16 and if anything comes to light, i'll let you know.
Have you an EX704? you may be able to read the data stored in the set and see if the non-working channels have any oddities!

I have a similar problem. I can successfully enter the programming mode but it will not accept new frequencies or offsets, just reverts to the old number after I hit enter. I was able to program it when I first received the radio but now can"t. Did anyone find a solution to the problem?

I just got two of these myself and they are wonderful with one exception. I can add any channel in the 2 meter band I want as long as it is EVEN. Otherwise I get the same results as above. I try the local repeater 146.835 and it goes to 00.00. if I try 146.000 or 147.000 it is fine and they transmit and recieve well. a few of the channels that were programmed in when I got it were odd like 162.535 and so forth so I know it is possible but the direct programming rejects it.

    Any help here?

    Default Missing Channel Fix

I just got an H16 off of ebay in pristine condition, but channel 15 just would not show up, no matter what I did in the programming mode. My solution was to make a cloning cable (http://highfields-arc.co.uk/construc...her/opc129.htm), and I used another H16 that had all 16 channels as the master, and the H16 missing the channel as the slave, and I followed the cloning instructions. It successfully restored the missing channel.

ok guys, with regards to missing channels.......

i have just bought an h16 from ebay in order to program some ic-v201's which worked fine.

following this, i thought it would be nice to have this set for general use, however, only 5 of the 16 channels appeared when stepping through.

hoping to find more on this, a search led me to this forum and i find i'm not alone with missing channels.

anyway, i decided to have a button pushing session and have discovered that with the radio in programming mode, if you push and hold function and type in the number of the missing channel and press enter, you should get 'ch:xx' where xx is the required channel.
you should then be able to enter the data required for that channel.

i did it for all the missing ones on my set from 6 to 16 and it restored them all and they are selectable with up / down buttons as well as typing in the channel and pressing enter when in normal mode.

i hope this info will be of use to those who have this situation with this set and would be pleased to hear from anyone whether it worked or not.
