welcome to the group, good to see someone a bit closer. Nice bit of country your in up there in Ontario. We get up to Algonquin a couple times a year. I'll have to listen for you next time we are in the area.
Hello from Ontario Canada.
My call is VE3FMC, which I have held since 1992. My name is Rick. I started off as a No Code Basic and worked up to a 12 WPM Advanced. Those were the days when you had to be able to send and receive code in order to gain HF privileges. I started my HF operating on 75 Meters with a full wave loop. That loop was not very high in the air and not in the vertical position either. The highest point was 30 feet and the lowest was around 10 feet. Not the best situation for a 75 M loop. However I managed to get my WAS 75 M Extra Class certificate with 100 watts and lots of local QRM.
Currently I only have a G5RV up for all band HF, a new Icom 718 HF rig with an LDG AT-7000 auto tuner. 2 Meters is the only other bands other than HF that I operate on. A Kenwood TM261A and a home made 5 element cubical quad is the antenna for that band.
I have used CW, RTTY, VHF/HF Packet, HF SSB & AM in the past. My next project will be operating digital once I purchase a SignaLink USB for that. My most cherished QSO was on 20 M CW with a ham who held the call G5RV.![]()
Living in the city limits antennas. I could install a free standing tower but I just never got around to it. Now that I am retired at the young age of 51 I am getting back into Ham Radio. So maybe that tower will be another future project.
I have served as the President of the local Ham Club and have done some Net Control on HF.
I love to golf, and last summer when I retired I went to work part time at a private golf course, in the Back Shop. I will return to work there this summer.
Look me up, I am on Echolink and I have IRLP capabilites. You can also check out my personal website at
