The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing!
Hi all I use a ft857 with a ATAS120a 40mtrs-70cms screwdriver antenna

In my '06 Mercedes Benz C280 I run the Icom 706MKIIG with a Comet FC-54NMO for UHF/VHF (using a Diamond NMO truck lip-mount) and on a custom bracket using my tow-hook adapter, I use Hamsticks for 75m, 40m & 20m.
do you power the 706 straight off the battery? Also, do you use a tuner?
I'm using the IC7000 with the LDG7000. Using a 96 inch whip cut for 10 meters, but also usable on 12 and 15 and 17. Also use a Hustler mast with corresponding loads for the rest of the bands. Soon I will be putting in a Yaesu FT-8800r with a diamond NR-770HBNMO
Yes, I power the 706MKIIG off a dedicated run to the battery, I was using a LDG7000 tuner however I just added the High Sierra - Sidewinder antenna, since I can tune for nearly perfectly flat SWR across 80-6 meters no need for the tuner anymore.
I ues a FT-7800 in the Range Rover, and a Maldol 2m/70cms on the gutter.
Yeasu FTM-10R ( dead due to water damage ) soon to be replaced with the waterproof Yaesu FTM-10SR
Here is my mobile vehicle ........
Pre Touring Trunk Install - you can see antenna next to Back Rest and Control Head above left hand grip.
FT-857D and ATAS-120A HF, 6M, 2M and 70cm auto antenna - they are not fitted yet, only having arrived yesterday. My XYL and one of my Son's conspired to purchase them for a surprise wedding anniversary present. However neither being a Ham, did not think about a mounting for the antenna to the car. I'm now waiting to find out what mount I can use to fit the antenna to the roof rails on my VX Estate. They did however, get a separation kit.
I will test fit the TCVR to the car over the weekend, to see if I need an extension power cable etc while waiting for an antenna mount.
FT857 with Qtek Intruder Multiband Antenna for HF, SG7900 for 2M/70CM I occasionally take my FT840 and Use a Silver Rod Retuned for 10M on Static Mobile up the hills. I am preparing my better half for permission to buy a FT897 for Xmas.![]()

My apologies for digging up an old post. I love working HF mobile. I live in Colorado and my parents and other family members live in Central Texas. This makes for a 1000 mile road trip and lots of opportunity to work HF mobile. My setup consists of the Yaesu FT-857D transceiver, Turbo Tuner by N2VZ and the High Sierra HS1800/Pro screwdriver antenna.
While driving through Eastern Colorado and North East Texas, I've worked stations throughout New England, the Pacific NorthWest and from Florida to California on 75-80 watts.
Here is a picture of the High Sierra mounted onto my Ford Escape. The antenna is mounted to a receiver hitch mount. The mount is grounded to the undercarriage.

ID-880 and a Diamond NR770 (NMO)
I have a Kenwood TS-130V. Output is only 6 watts (ALC ???)
Antenna is a FD-3, bit hangs too low.
Despite that my DX from the Netherlands is a confirmed 6000 km with New York on 20 meters.
I am running a little Yaesu 7800 with some window mount el-cheapo antenna I got on ebay. Thing works pretty darn good, and doesn't LOOK like a HAM antenna.

and here for the rig:
I just can't figure out a place to put the darn mic. I just have it laying on my dash. I'd love to put it somewhere, but I'm not drilling holes in the truck so I guess it stays where it is.
Oh yea, the little radar detector you see on the dash, well she was stolen out of that vehicle, right where it sits in that photo which is about in the middle of our property. I hope whoever stole it gets the biggest ticket because the thing was almost 12 years old and hardly even worked. If I catch someone else breaking into my truck, they will be shot.
Sorry I went on a little rant, seeing that now-stolen radar detector in that picture reminded me that it was gone and how pissed I was someone went into my vehicle on my property while I was sleeping and took it.
I'm running a yaseu ft-8800r and a diamond dual band in a dodge p/u
