Hi all

Have finally got around to getting my FTM-350 and my FT-7800 installed in the truck. I also have an android tablet in the truck that is used for mapping etc and was wondering what software was out there for android based systems. I have APRSDroid and the repeater program from Martin Lynch wondering if there is anything else that I should have.

I am guessing there is nothing out there yet for linking a tablet to a radio and if I want to do anything id have to rely on the netbook to do things ???

not been on in a while so off to have a catch up

Hello,

I've never been active and I'm trying to get my mobile rig working and to finally make a strong contact. I thought the issue may have been my antenna which I've actually asked a question on this same issue in the antenna section of this form. I was able to find someone who would let me borrow their MFJ antenna analyzer and found that I have good SWR. So this time I decided to cut out everyone else and record what I truly sound like in a repeater with echo link on my computer. So basically I have found that I sound like I'm 20 feet away from my mic when talking. I talk on the mic anywhere from 3 to 10 inches away. Also I did this test again practically screaming at the mic less than a half an inch away and I still sound like I'm 20 feet away. No I got to say I do sound incredibly clear but at such a low audio I have to amplify the recording to hear myself.

So does anybody have any idea what could be going on? I'm using an IC-208H radio with a CSB-7900 antenna on an RS-840 antenna mount. Could the radio or mic be broken or could it be the rig it self has an issue. Or maybe there is a setting that isn't correct. Anyways I don't know and any direction would be helpful.

Thank You,
SSB, RTTY and HRD Rig Control works find, but I am getting zero transmit power on psk31. The radio goes into TX mode but zero power is showing. Same exact thing happens no matter which psk software I am using.
I’ve tried adjusting:
Filters On/Off
sound card settings
dig vox
direct com port PTT
TX’ing configurations
user-u, user-l
I did a hard reset on the yaesu and started from scrath, still doesn’t work. I’ve spent about 40 hours reading and reading and reading solutions that all say the same thing, and still zero TX power. What have I over looked?

Hi I am not currently a Ham radio operator, but my father is. I'm looking to get him a gift this Christmas concerning this hobby, but not being an operator I have no idea where to even start. Just taking a shot in the dark to see if anyone knows of any ideas for me.

As for what he has, well, he has what appears to me to be a ton of equipment. I'm talking various lines running across the yard, and several different radios, particularly older ones that have been around the house for years.

Just trying to think outside of the box. Any ideas?
Thanks

I am refurbishing my FL2100, and one component that definitely needs replacing is R-SHUNT. The existing wire-wound component is badly charred and shows a resistance of about 15ohms, but I am not confident that this is correct. Does anyone know what the component value and rating should be ?

Hi:

Another stilly newbie question.

This is a real stupid question and I believe the answer is 'No' but I'll ask anyway.
Is there anyway from listening (Other than maybe a directional and distance
finding antenna) that I can tell which repeater is transmitting a conversation
I'm hearing? I don't recall reading this anywhere. I know the frequency, that's
not the issue. :)

Ok, I have the directory, the problem is there is the same frequency (146.880) is used
by 2 repeaters 'potentially' hearable from me. One is in Killington VT,
the other one is in Mid-Western Maine close to the NH border. I'm in Guildhall,
VT, right on the Western NH border - about 80 miles from Killington, and about 98
(as the crow flies) miles from Buckfield, ME.

At first I figured it was Killington, but listening I heard conversations around Maine, etc.
so that made me think it was Buckfield.

Now they do use different CTCSS codes so I could try and transmit and assume if nobody
replies that I'm listening to the other repeater (Other CTCSS code) but is there a convention
where so often either the repeater transmit an automatic beacon like identification signal
or something.

Just asking. Not a big deal but it got me curious.

Thanks,

I purchased a TYT model TH-UVF1 hand-held transceiver about a year and a half ago but have been unable to use it because the manual gives functions of specific keys and definitions of readout symbols, but no hint on practical use. Obviously the manufacturers assume users have obtained proficiency with this type of unit before purchasing theirs. However, being an ultra-green newbie, having passed my Technician's license test based on theoretical knowledge and absolutely no actual experience hamming, I might as well be using this radio for a paperweight, because I cannot figure out how to use it without some assistance. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was just wondering if there is any place that lists what ALL of the bands are allocated for, not just for ham radio. The reason I ask is because I have been scanning around with my Yaesu handheld, and I often pick up on people talking on frequencies and bands that are not allocated for ham radio. I am just curious what it is I'm actually listening to a lot of the time. Much of it seems to use different jargon or code, and it's harder to pick up. Is there a standard for what bands different organizations and services (Fire, EMS, police) all use in North America, or is it different for every city or state?
