I am preparing for disaster so to speak be it natural or governmental. I want to find out a good model/system that could be used as portable as well as mobile and have a wide range of frequencies for use, or the ability to add to the freq's whenever needed.

I don't have thousands of dollars so keep it under 700 dollar range but if its modifiable then i can add to it later.

Thanks

Steve

Most important is that it is portable. Mobile is secondary. cost, and ease of modification.

Having that much knowledge and experience, you should be able to find just what you're looking for without my feeble attempts at help. Shoot, you should be able to design and build it yourself!

And I'll take your response to my question as a "no".

I think what Pat was getting at was, as it's a "Ham Radio Forum", if you have a callsign then it's nice to see one - it gives people an idea who/where you are which can be important in some cases (eg: where can I get a part for xxx cheaply).

I'll start you off with regards to your original question: Perhaps a "shack-in-a-box" rig like the FT-857.

Well it was a rather insulting response to my post in that i took it as a demand for something to get something when i just asked for some reccomendations.
ANd yes i can build one from scratch. But don't want to do that as i am totally burned out on doing that sort of thing. My expertise is garnered from eduation as well as working with satellite communications (Employer was scientific atlanta) and It was required that i have a license to do that work. Does it mean i am a ham operator nope it doesn't, all it means i have the licenses and security clearance to do that and more. I also don't have aproblem finding components or buying them when needed. I just thought maybe there was something out there that is already built that i don't have to go through the "misery" of building it. Remember i did that for years left it after the stress that led to 7 heart attacks. All i wanted is to know of something out there if it is available. I haven't kept up with it for years now so it would be expected that i would ask those that have. :)

At any rate, having checked into my license today i find that it is now expired. Thats what i get for being disabled for 10 years and not paying attention. BUt yes i do have one but i have to apply to get it current. Grumble grumble

Please delete my posts and my account. Found a forum that is quite a bit more helpful in my pursuit of what i want. Thank you!

Ha ha, and good riddance.

Perhap 27MHz will be more welcoming. Or perhaps a mobile phone.
