I'm a member of an online community dedicated to ARGs and in one of the current campaigns we are following, we are being requested to intercept a series of what we believe are EME transmissions over the next few days. Unfortunately, none of the active participants of the campaign are ham radio operators, and the few of our friends that are do not have 23cm band radios capable of tuning into the 1296.040 MHz band over which these transmissions will occur.

I was pointed to this forum by a friend who suggested that someone here might be able to help us - either by checking out the transmission themselves or by pointing us in a direction where we might be able to do it ourselves online. Since the first transmission is set for tomorrow, we're in a bit of a time crunch so we're reaching out to as many ham radio communities as possible in the short time that we have to increase our chances of success, so apologies if you happen to see a message similar to this more than once.

Here is the information for the first 3 broadcasts:

1. 12-18 UT: 17:30:00 – 18:30:00 21°41?S ±90° 56°43?W ±90°
2. 12-18 UT: 23:00:00 – 24:00:00 20°59?S ±90° 136°36?W ±90°
3. 12-19 UT: 18:00:00 – 19:00:00 18°14?S ±90° 52°49?W ±90°

Normally I would give you links to where you could find out more information about what is going on, but as our community's previous attempt to post on this forum was quashed and banned, I am leery of adding links lest they be automagically seen as evil. However a Google search on the terms Exoriare and Deaddrop will link to an article I wrote that explains things in more detail, if you are inclined to learn more. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask and I'll do my best to answer them.

I really do hope that someone here would be able and willing to help us out. We've been (unknowingly) working towards this for the past month and I would hate to see us fall short simply because we were unable to find someone capable of helping out in time. Thanks in advance.

Well, I have to apologise as the links which I tested after the post was approved linked to a games site that looked like many others who have posted here but were actually just spamming. It certainly got some discussion going in our chat room, as I wasn't the only one who thought was a spam post.

I am intrigued by this now I have more info, but I don't have 23cms either.

To be safe for now, I would recommend just posting a Google Link, and I will look into removing the ban I set.

Thanks so much. Technically what we're doing is a game, but there is also a real world component where we have to utilize our networking skills to find people all over the world to complete various tasks. Trying to capture an EME signal is definitely one of the more unique challenges we've faced, but I'm hopeful that it is something that can be accomplished.

Here's some Google links where you can find out some more specific information about what we're doing:

Search on 'Exoriare Deaddrop' (http://www.google.com/search?q=exoriare+deaddrop&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a) - The first result should go to 'Exoriare – Ham Radio Broadcast | ARG Deaddrop' which is the article I wrote for people who follow real life ARG events. It has all the information that I have about what we need to accomplish, as well as links to the player discussion sites and a overall guide to what we've done so far.

Search on 'Exoriare ARGN' (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=exoriare+argn&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g1) - Exoriare: Exploring the Darknet | ARGNet: Alternate Reality Gaming ... is an article roughly explaining what Exoriare is.

Search on 'Alternate Reality Games' (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=alternate+reality+games&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g10) - Various links to explain what Alternate Reality Games (ARGs) actually are.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give us.

I expect these transmissions will be CW?
Just a thought because there are so many modes nowdays...

A proven way to work EME is setup one day before and check everything, then go back and check again, then work stations.

Also, Maidenhead locator squares are usually near enough (I think it's 6 sq km) and easier to remember (KM64tu).

Good luck with the test! sorry I have no 23cms gear to help out :/
