hi all
i am in the process of making a faceplate for my antenna connectors in the shack from a double blank faceplate.
only just realised......
i have never soldered a SO-239 in my life !
plenty of PL-239's !

are there any tips / tricks you can impart pls ?

Are these for VHF/UHF or just HF antennas? For 50Mhz and above you should use N connectors. The back of a SO239 has a small post which you solder onto and the thread is earthed to the panel with the 4 small screens. Make sure the ones you have fix like this rather than a ring as the plug starts to move when you tighten up to it!

Yes, and some of them even come with a ring that serves as a lock washer which also has a solder lug on it. Helps to add a short ground wire for backup.
